Body Sculpting and Diastasis Recti Hastings

Non-Invasive Muscle Stimulation Following Abdominal Separation

Diastasis recti, also known as abdominal separation, is a widening of the connective tissue between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscles.
It is particularly common during and following pregnancy, although abdominal separation can occur in other circumstances.
If you think you may have diastasis recti, appropriate assessment is important before considering a body-sculpting treatment.
Lipo 360 Body Sculpt uses electromagnetic muscle stimulation to produce involuntary muscle contractions in selected treatment areas.
Body Sculpt is a non-invasive body-sculpting treatment intended to support muscle conditioning and body-contouring goals. It is not a treatment for diastasis recti and should not replace medical assessment, physiotherapy, rehabilitation or an appropriate exercise programme.

What Is Diastasis Recti?

Diastasis recti describes a widening of the connective tissue between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscles.

During pregnancy, the abdominal wall naturally stretches to accommodate the growing baby. Some separation is therefore common during pregnancy and in the weeks after childbirth.

For many people, this improves following birth, although separation can persist.

You may notice:
  • a gap or feeling of separation along the centre of the abdomen
  • visible bulging or “doming” through the middle of the abdomen during certain movements
  • difficulty controlling or engaging the abdominal area
If you are concerned about persistent abdominal separation, particularly following pregnancy, speak to your GP or an appropriately qualified physiotherapist for assessment.

Can Body Sculpt Treat Diastasis Recti?

Lipo 360 Body Sculpt should not be presented as a treatment or cure for diastasis recti.
The treatment uses electromagnetic stimulation to cause repeated involuntary contractions of the muscles in the selected treatment area.

For somebody who has previously experienced abdominal separation, Body Sculpt may be considered for general abdominal muscle-conditioning and body-sculpting goals once it is appropriate for them to do so.

However, we do not claim that Body Sculpt will:
  • close or repair abdominal separation
  • heal the linea alba
  • cure diastasis recti
  • relieve back pain
  • correct posture
  • replace physiotherapy or rehabilitation

Suitability will depend on your individual circumstances.

Should I See a Physiotherapist First?

If you have an existing or suspected diastasis recti, particularly if you have persistent doming, pain, weakness or other symptoms, we recommend obtaining appropriate healthcare advice before considering Body Sculpt.
Following pregnancy, your GP may be able to refer you to a physiotherapist for assessment and an appropriate exercise programme.
Body Sculpt should only be considered once any relevant medical or physiotherapy concerns have been assessed and you have been advised that returning to this type of activity is appropriate.

Body Sculpt After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and childbirth can lead to considerable changes to the abdominal wall and muscles.
There is no need to rush into body-contouring treatment following pregnancy.
If you are postpartum, your recovery comes first. The right time to consider Body Sculpt will vary depending on your recovery, medical history, and individual circumstances.
If you have concerns about abdominal separation, pelvic-floor symptoms, persistent pain or your postnatal recovery, speak to your GP, midwife or physiotherapist before considering treatment.
Body Sculpt is not provided during pregnancy.

What Does Lipo 360 Body Sculpt Do?

Body Sculpt uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate involuntary contractions in the treated muscles.
Suitable customers can consider treatment to support their muscle-conditioning and body-contouring goals without surgery.
The sensation can feel unusual because the muscles contract repeatedly during treatment. Intensity can be adjusted according to your comfort and treatment protocol.
Individual experiences and outcomes vary.

Who May Consider Body Sculpt?

Body Sculpt may be considered by suitable customers who:
  • would like to support abdominal muscle-conditioning goals
  • are already able to participate in normal physical activity
  • are not currently injured or undergoing rehabilitation
  • are not pregnant
  • have been appropriately assessed where there is an existing medical or musculoskeletal concern
  • understand that Body Sculpt does not replace exercise, physiotherapy or medical treatment
A consultation allows us to discuss your circumstances and determine whether Body Sculpt is an appropriate option for you.

When Might Body Sculpt Not Be Appropriate?

Body Sculpt will not be suitable for everyone.
Treatment may not be appropriate if you are pregnant, have certain implanted electronic or metal devices, have particular medical conditions, are experiencing unexplained abdominal symptoms, or are currently recovering from surgery or injury.
During your consultation, tell us about your medical history, medications, previous surgery, and any relevant health conditions.
Where appropriate, we may recommend that you obtain advice or clearance from a healthcare professional before treatment.
What Results Can I Expect?
Body Sculpt is intended to support muscle-conditioning and body-contouring goals.
Individual responses vary, so we cannot guarantee a particular improvement or outcome.
Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss what you want to achieve and set realistic expectations before deciding whether treatment is right for you.
Body Sculpt should be viewed as complementary to an appropriate healthy lifestyle rather than a replacement for regular physical activity.
A Consultation-Led Approach
At Lipo 360, treatment starts with understanding your individual circumstances.
If you tell us that you have diastasis recti or believe you may have abdominal separation, we will discuss this during your consultation.
Where your symptoms or circumstances indicate that medical or physiotherapy assessment is more appropriate, we recommend seeking this before proceeding with Body Sculpt.
We aim to help you make an informed decision about whether treatment is suitable for you.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does Body Sculpt close diastasis recti?

Lipo 360 does not claim that Body Sculpt closes or repairs diastasis recti. It is an electromagnetic muscle-stimulation treatment intended to support muscle-conditioning and body-contouring goals in suitable customers.

Can I have Body Sculpt if I have diastasis recti?

Potentially, but this depends on your individual circumstances. If you have persistent or symptomatic abdominal separation, appropriate medical or physiotherapy assessment should come first.

Is Body Sculpt a replacement for physiotherapy?

No. Body Sculpt is not physiotherapy, rehabilitation or medical treatment and should not be used as a replacement for these services.

Can I have Body Sculpt immediately after having a baby?

No assumption should be made that Body Sculpt is appropriate simply because you have given birth. Your body needs time to recover, and suitability varies between individuals. If you have concerns about abdominal separation or your postnatal recovery, speak to your GP, midwife or physiotherapist.

Can I have Body Sculpt while breastfeeding?

Discuss breastfeeding during your consultation. We would not describe Body Sculpt as automatically “safe while breastfeeding”. We need to consider your individual circumstances and the manufacturer’s contraindications for the equipment being used.

Is Body Sculpt painful?

The treatment causes repeated muscle contractions, so you will feel the muscles working during the session. Experiences vary, and we can adjust the intensity as needed.

How many sessions will I need?

No single treatment course suits everyone. If Body Sculpt is right for you, we’ll discuss the proposed treatment plan during your consultation.

Are results guaranteed?

No. Individual responses to non-surgical treatments vary, so we can’t guarantee a specific result.
